There is no silicone vinyl available although it is called like that. Silicone is a floppy material the degree of this attribute is determined by the class of silicone the baby is poured in as some silicones are softer and more wiggly. On the other hand silicone babies will usually have much fewer details on them. The problem is that the silicone leaches out from the vinyl over time and this can cause the paint to literally flake off from the doll. That is caused by using more softening agents in the vinyl.

Silicone babies that are full body all one piece made from the same slab of silicone can be submerged in water. Technically it is not possible to mix vinyl and silicone it is either vinyl or silicone. Secrist promotes that their 100 vinyl doll will not have flaking problems over time and they will not change color like silicone is prone too as long as genesis heat set paints are used on the reborned doll. But that doesn t mean that silicone babies cannot look real as there are some magnificent pieces out there.
